Editorial Note
Last December 2020, the 1st International Plant Protection Symposium was held in Ecuador in commemoration of the international year of Plant Health, declared by the FAO. At this Symposium, numerous papers were presented on the theme of Plant Health in crops of economic interest for the Latin American region. As exponents of that meeting, articles on insect pest management, with the use of entomopathogenic organisms, with natural plant extracts and with agronomic practices can be seen in this special issue of the Agricultural Center. Likewise, there are several articles on disease management, including those caused by the phytopathogenic fungi Sclerotonia, Phytophthora and Fusarium among others, in crops of great economic interest such as cassava, taro, chickpea and avocado. The plant-pathogen interaction is reflected in contributions in this special issue such as the Cladosporium-tomato, Phytophthora-avocado and Pseudocercospora-Musa interaction. Studies of viral diseases in sugar cane and papaya, appear in this special issue dedicated to Plant Health. Other contributions include research on weeds in potatoes, fungi associated with radical systems in forests and chickpeas, agro-ecological approaches to combat insect pests in sunflower, varietal response in beans to rust and other topics that our Magazine offers its readers with the central objective to contribute to the dissemination of scientific work in the agricultural area, as well as to enrich the bibliographic heritage of Agricultural Sciences in tropical and subtropical regions.
